How Likely Am I? (howlikelyami.com, "we", "us") is operated from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect as little as we can: there are no ads, no advertising trackers, no analytics, and we never sell your information.

What we collect and why

Quiz answers and results

When you finish a quiz, we store your answers and score so we can show your result. Each result has its own unguessable link, and anyone you share that link with can see it.

Mental health screeners

Screener answers (such as the PHQ-9 or GAD-7) are stored only to show your result. They are never linked to your account or your device, so they don't appear in "My results" and we can't tell who took them. Anyone with the result link can see that result, so share it carefully.

Device identifier

We set a cookie called device_id, a random code that lasts up to 400 days. We use it only to apply the free limits (one free quiz, and a daily free round in Learn & Play). It is not used for advertising or to follow you around other websites.

Your account (optional)

You don't need an account to take quizzes. If you sign in, we collect your email address (to send sign-in links and identify your account) and the first and last name you give us (to show your initials). Signed-in quiz results, except screeners, are saved to your account so you can see them at "My results". Signing in uses cookies to keep you logged in.

Membership payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe tells us your payment was successful and gives us a customer reference, which we store with your account to unlock the membership. Stripe's use of your information is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Learn & Play (for kids)

Children never sign in or type anything personal. Their grade, stars and progress are saved only in their own browser, never on our servers. To apply the daily free round, our server records which round was started, the date, and the device identifier described above.

Technical logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider records technical information about requests (such as IP address, browser type and the page requested) to keep the site running and secure. These logs are kept for a short time and not used to identify you.

Read-aloud

The 🔊 button uses the text-to-speech voice built into your browser or device. We don't receive or store any audio.

Who processes your information

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run the site:

This means your information may be stored and processed outside Canada, where local laws may allow governments to access it. We don't share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Cookies and browser storage

We only use cookies and browser storage that the site needs to work: the device identifier, sign-in cookies if you log in, and browser storage for Learn & Play progress, your Flag Detective and Map Detective best scores, and your Globe Explorer progress. Because we don't use advertising or analytics cookies, there's nothing to opt out of.

How long we keep information

Children

Learn & Play is designed for children, and we built it to collect as little as possible: no sign-in, no names, no photos, no chat and no links to other websites. The only identifier involved is the device cookie, used solely to run the site.

Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, and memberships must be bought by an adult. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email info@howlikelyami.com and we'll delete it. Parents can clear a child's Learn & Play progress at any time from the grown-ups page.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you. You can delete your account yourself at any time from your profile, which deletes your saved results too. For anything else, email info@howlikelyami.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights (for example under Canada's PIPEDA, Alberta's PIPA, the EU and UK GDPR, or California law), and you can complain to your local privacy regulator. In Canada, that's the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Security

Information is encrypted in transit, access to our database is restricted, and scores are calculated on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll put a notice on the site.
